A picking stick for driving a shuttle through the shed of a loom, comprises a shaft of carbon fibres embedded in synthetic material which is bonded to it on all dies, and acts as a protection. Carbon fibre shafts may be bonded to a shaft of another material, with the outer layer enclosing the laminate and binding the details together. Wear and splintering at the points subject to shock and friction are prevented and the lightness in weight improves efficiency and reduces noise.
