In mfrg. filter press units or filter plates by pressing in a mould a mixture of resin and short-fibre reinforcing material is hot pressed so that as the resin flows between the plates of the press the fibres becom oriented in a random manner but generally lying parallel to the plane of the plate. The matl. is pref. initially formed into a sheet of dough-like matl. before being introduced into the plate. The mixt. may contain a pigment, a catalyst and/or a filler. The outlet ducts or pipes and the feed opening are all pref. formed by plungers mounted on the half-moulds. Preferred pressing temp. is 150 deg C, the pressure being 70 kp/cm2.
