The magnetic bearing comprises a ring-shaped permanent magnet (7) on the rotor (1) and a similar magnet (8) fixed to the housing (9). The first magnet (7) is held firmly on the upper front plate (2) of the rotor between an inner flange surface (26) positioned parallel to the rotor's longitudinal axis and an outer protective ring (20). The second, fixed magnet (8) is attached to a mounting ring (27). The two magnets are separated axially from one another by a short distance (g) whereby the outer diameter of the rotor magnet is approximately equal to the inner diameter of the fixed magnet.
