The phosphor consists of Ca and/or Sr beta-ortho-phosphate of Whitlockite structure, activated with Ce(III) and Tb(III), and contains Li. Mn can be present as additional activator. Pref. Ce and Tb are present in about the same atomic proportions and the atomic ratios of the various components are Ca, Sr : Ce (or Tb) 1:0.02-0.4; Li:Ca, Sr 0.01-1.4:1; Mn:Ca, Sr 0.:1. Used in fluorescent and discharge lamps, cathode ray tubes, x-ray screens etc. Li improves the luminosity. this phosphor can be produced easily and in cheaper crucibles than usual, since the max. temp. used in its mfr. is ca. 1000 degrees C, cf. 1450 degrees C or more for other phosphate phosphors.
