Casting moulds made of green sand - with subsequent spraying of carbonaceous aerosol on mould surface contours

Casting moulds and cores are prepd., from green sand, from a mixt. of sand, bonding medium and additives but without the org. matter normally added to prevent its burn-on to the casting. The halves are then sprayed with carbon in liq. or powder form or other material which is turned into vitrain by the heat of the poured molten metal. This greatly reduces the amt. and cost for the addn. of carboneceous matter. The carbon dust conditions in a foundry are improved. The cost for drying, required if blackwash is applied manually, is saved. Pipe clogging and vapours from oily additives are eliminated.
