Fluorescent lamps with a transparent electrically conductive coating and a method for forming such a coating on the inside of the glass tube of the lamps use the following stages: (A) formation of an aq. soln. of a water-soluble in cpd.; (B) applying this soln. to the inside of the glass tube, to form a coating; and (C) drying this coating by calcining at a temp. below the softening temp. of the glass, so that the In cpd. is converted to In2O3. The method is simple and economical. The coating gives a considerable improvement with lamps contg. at amalgam-forming material and certain gas mixts. which are difficult to strike.
