The display system consists of a printed panel (22) bearing printed electronic circuits (23) to produce individual display elements. These are connected together by parallel sided electrical conducting strips (24-27). In a typical example, the individual displays are 1.5 mm X 1.5 mm and the connecting strips 0.25 mm broad with a spacing also of 0.25 mm. Connects are made to contacts and joints formed by ultrasonic welding. The conductor plate has a coating in the form of a thin film of gold or nickel. The display elements and the conductor strips are all mounted on the same side of the panel.
