The steam or hot water boiler is of steel welded construction fired with solid fuel, and the boiler walls are made from sections of cylinders forming an assembly which does not need additional stiffeners. Th boiler water wall section is made from two part cylindrical whells connected at their meeting edges to form a crescent shaped cross section bounded by the shells. The combustion chamber is within the concave section and this section contains also water and air tube which carry air to the rear of the furnace for secondary combustion. Primary combustion gases rise past water tubes and the combustion chamber roof and water by further combustion in this space. The coal is fed into the furnace from the rear under gravity.
