Pesticidal diphenyl-guanidine derivs - e.g. N-methylsulphonyl-N'-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-N''-(3,5-dinitrophenyl)- guanidine

New diphenyl-guanidine derivs. of formula (I) (where R1-10 are H, halogen, 1-5C (halo)alkyl, 1-5C alkoxy, 115C alkyl-carbonyl, 1-5C alkoxycarbonyl, CN or NO2, and Y is aralkylsulphonyl, 1-5C alkylcarbonyl, (1-5C alkoxy)2PO- or (1-5C alkyl)2N)2PO-; or R1, R3-8 and R10 are H, halogen, 1-5C alkyl, 1-5C alkoxy, 1-5C alkylcarbonyl, CN or NO2, and R2 and R9 are H, halogen, 1-5C (halo)alkyl, 1-5C alkoxy, 1-5C alkylcarbonyl, 1-5C alkoxycarbonyl, CN or NO2 and Y is 1-5C alkylsulphonyl or opt. substd. arylsulphonyl), e.g. N-methylsulphonyl-N'-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-N"-(3,5-bistrifluoromet- hylphenyl)-guanidine, are useful for combatting various types of animal and vegetable pests. In partic. they have outstanding systemic activity against insects, with little or no contact insecticidal activity even at high rates of applicn. This is advantageous since it gives selectivity in the insecticidal effect; only insects which harm, e.g. plants by feeding in them, are affected, useful insects which live on the plants or come into contact with them being unharmed.
