Spheroidising inoculant for graphite cast iron - using pellets made from pure magnesium and iron powders and placed in the downgate

The pellets are made using pure iron powder and a pure inoculant powder of Mg, Ca, Ce or the other rare-earths. When using Mg, the pellets contain 1-20 wt.% Mg, 80-99wt.% Fe, (pref. 10% Mg, 90% Fe). A mixt. of pellets with varying Mg content (5-75% Mg) can also be used. The metal powders used pref. have a particle size from 100-300 mu and the mixt. is pressed into pellets using a min. press. of 1 tonne/cm2.
