Bottom blowing converter blast system - using octagonal lime-oxygen loop for tuyeres shrouded by enveloping gas tubes

A system to feed oxygen, lime and an enveloping gas into a quality-basic oxygen process converter consists of a closed-loop distributing main below the converter bottom, with branch pipes to take the lime entrained by the oxygen to the tuyeres. At two points, a fresh oxygen/lime mixture can be added to the loop. Flexible hoses carry the enveloping gas from a central point to each tuyere where it shrouds the oxygen/lime tube in the annulus left be a concentric outer tube. This eliminates the conventional cylindrical collector and facilitates the individual exchange of tuyeres. Damage on one does not involve other tuyeres; the system is simpler and requires less upkeep.
