The Electric coffee make has a heated base which boils water taken from an integral reservoir, passes it over coffee grounds in a filter and into a jug which is kept hot by the heated base. The water is boiled in a U-shaped chamber (24) inside a bed plate (21) fitted to the base. Around the periphery of the plate is an electric resistance element (26), controlled by a thermostat (34), os which the part nearet to the heating chamber (23) gives out a greater amount of heat than that given out by the element (25) used to heat the base of the jug.
