Racemic or opt. active eburnamonines - by reaction of racemic or opt. active vincamines, in an organic solven, with a base

A new prepn. of (I)-, (+) (-)-eburnamonines by reaction of (plus-or-minus)-, (+)- or (-)- vincamines, dissolved in an organic solvent, with a base. Increased yields of optically active and racemic eburnamonines, used in treatment of cerebral vascular disorders. Synthesis of the (+)-isomer has not been described before. Suitable solvents are aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbons, alkanols e.g. t-butanol, and their mixts. Pref. bases are sodium or potassium alkoxides. Optical isomers are not racemized by the conditions of the reaction.
