An electrostatic paint spraying head has a nozzle (21), with a central paint discharge channel and air holes (28a, 28b) directed towards it inside a cup shaped depression in the end of the nozzle, and a main electrode (31) and a secondare electrode (32) facing inwards towards each other at the tip of the nozzle, as in the main patent. A discharge electrode (32a) integral with the secondary electrode points towards the article being painted, and has an auxiliary discharge electrode (33) forming an extension of the secondary electrode, but pointing outwards at right angles to the jet. In an alternative design, there is only one discharge electrode, this being attached to the secondary electrode as before, but pointing outwards at e.g. an angle of 45 deg. to the jet.
