In mixts. comprising granite chippings, polyester, hardener, retarder, etc. which makes up the coating, the densest elements i.e. the granite chippings sink to the bottom during hardening. To retain the required appearance, wet granolithic topping is applied to horizontal surface of breeze-block and held in place by shuttering placed around the block. The thickness of the topping is calculated precisely because there is a close relationship between the depth of the topping and the space between the granite chippings containing the other elements of the coating. The amt. must be such that during hardening, the precipitation of the heaviest granite chippings allows sufficient chippings to appear on the surface to hide the other elements, thus giving the required appearance of solid granite.
