The magnifying device (1) comprises a means of allowing the use of the apparatus on a horizontal surface (2) which supports the object to be viewed, (2) the observer being able to position himself in a natural and comfortable manner i.e. without being obliged to cast his look vertically across the magnifying device or to apply his eye (4) or eyes to the eye-piece of the device. A means (7, 8) is provided whereby a large horizontal binocular field of view is assured through a similar optical system of high magnification, without appreciable aberration right up to the limits of the field.
