The key is of the plug-in type and has two housing sections, one of which is designed as a plug-in base and is used to receive the electrical devices and the other of which is is guided onto the base and acts as a switch-operating part. This switch-operating part is supported on one or more spring contacts of the switches. The outermost lateral limiting surfaces of the base are in line with the outermost lateral limiting surfaces of the switch-operating part. The top surface of the switch-operating part is subdivided into part surfaces demarcated from one another, each of which can be illuminated individually.
