The magnetometer has a central conductor with an annular coat of magnetic material in the centre of an alternating current coil. The magnetic film is operated at saturation. A test signal is collected from the a.c. detector coil and a signal processing unit is connected to the detector winding. It measures the signal amplitudes and is followed by a phase detector which compares the signal processing unit output signal phase with that of a reference signal, and displays the result in a succeeding display instrument.
