The instrument has two telescopic rods (1, 2) sliding one inside the other and coupled together via a screw. Each rod is fixed to one part of the bone, which has previously been divided into two, by a number of parallel pins (6). The rods can each be of U-section, with holes drilled in their flanges through which the pins pass. The pins can have square heads (4) for engagement by tools, the other ends being screwed to allow fixing into the bone. The screw between the rods can act against supports (11, 12) in turn bearing against the pins, the supports being hook-shaped. The instrument is particularly for use on the tibia and femur.
