The storage shelving unit comprises a system of uprights (1, 2) with lateral fastening lugs (13) or slots which have insert openings at the top and bottom and a system of longitudinal cross-beams (3, 4) which have blocks (34) at their ends mounted at right angles and designed to slot into the uprights. Transverse girders (5) are also provided which can be detachably fastened to the lugs (13) in the uprights (1, 2) whilst detachable diagonal webs (6, 7, 8) can be mounted in the longitudinal and transverse planes to brace the uprights (1, 2) against the longitudinal cross beams (3, 4) so as to enable a free standing stable frame to be erected on site. The suspension rods (9) which support the hooks (90) used for hanging up the storage items can be mounted at any level allowing maximum use of any space available. These rods are designed to fit into either the uprights or the transverse girders (5).
