Catalyst compsns. made by (A) combining a carrier with a soln. in which at least 50% of the Ir present is in the form of a Ir (IV) complex, and (B) drying and calcining, is used in the reforming of naphtha to improve octane rating. Catalysts are of high and consistent activity and selectivity.
