1514208 Pipe connections MAIN GASWERKE AG and MANNESMANN AG 4 Aug 1975 [16 Aug 1974] 32558/75 Heading F2G A polyethylene gas pipe 1 enters a house via a wall 2 and is joined to a metal pipe 8 by a connector comprising a polyethylene sleeve 6 and a metal tube 9, the polyethylene pipe 1 being welded by embedded wires 7 into one end of the sleeve 6 and the metal tube 9 secured within the other, an abutment 11 at the end of the metal tube 9 fitting within a recess 14 in the sleeve 6. The abutment 11 is an internally screwthreaded ring or steel nut 12 moulded within the sleeve 6 and screwed and adhered to the end of the tube 9 which itself is a force fit in the sleeve 6; alternatively the abutment may be a collar formed on the end of the tube 9, the tube being moulded within the sleeve 6 with sealing rings trapped between. The sleeve 6 may be formed in two parts one of which may be moulded with the tube 9 or formed separately, the two parts being welded together, e.g. by means of further embedded wires. A protective tube 3 with gastight end caps 4 surrounds the connector where it passes through the wall 2.
