Drum-type washing machine comprises a programme selector, and means for adapting the selected programme to the nature of the clothes and the degree of soiling; the latter consists of a first selector for control according to delicacy of clothes, and a second multi-position selector for control according to degree of soiling. When actuated, the contacts of these selectors intervene in the programme to cause lengthening, shortening, suppression, repetition and/or modification of a cycle. The two selectors may comprise two keyboards, of which the keys of the first selector provide different lengths of operating time and the keys of the second provide for different quantities of clothes with different degrees of soiling.
