A cartridge for a shotgun can be filled with pellets in different ways, so that the user of the gun which is designed to fire only one size and shape of cartridge, can select the type of cartridge required to suit the type of game being hunted. Thus the pellets can be arranged to scatter over a larger area or to be concentrated onto a smaller area. Two weights or pellets can be used and the larger pellets can be arranged at the front with the smaller pellets at the rear, or vice versa or a third degree can be obtained by mixing the two sized indiscriminately. In the first case, the heavier pellets at the front give higher speed and greater impact force, giving maximum scatter.
