Straightening or heat treating long thin parts - using induction heating coil and tensile stress producing plastic deformation

Treatment of long thin components to improve their internal structure, or for straightening, involves the successive heating of at least certain zones of the component and submitting the zones to a controlled value of elongation so that plastic deformation occurs. The elongation is pref. obtd. by controlled stretching of the component which is pref. rotated during the treatment. The pref. machine uses an induction heating coil mounted on a trolley which also carries a coolant spray for cooling the heated zone after deformation, and the trolley travels upwards on guides so the inductor can travel along the component which is subjected to tensile stress. Process is suitable for metals, alloys or plastics, e.g. foils for swordplay, rapiers, sabres, lances and also for long drill holders used in mining, the petroleum industry etc.
