Polyether polyol compsn. has an ave. mol.wt. of 1,000-10,000, and an ave. hydroxyl functionality of 2.3-3.3, and is prepd. by reacting an alkylene oxide with a mixt. of sorbitol or sorbitan, and water or a dihydric alcohol. Compsn. gives good quality flexible foams with good physical props., e.g. tensile strength, tear resistance, and resistance to permanent deformation. The alkylene oxide is pref. propylene oxide, opt. mixed with ethylene oxide. The divalent alcohol is pref. ethylene glycol.
