The decorative pattern forming machine has a roller on a support incorporating an internal ink reservoir. On the periphery of the roller (1) there are recesses or embossed patterns (11), and there is a transfer pad (9) bearing against the roller, between it and the ink reservoir (3), typically of felt. The roller can be removable from the support, which has two semi-rigid bosses (5) with which the roller spindle ends snap into engagement. Each boss can have a groove extended by a deeper recess as ing as the spindle bearing. An elastic device can be provided thrusting the pad against the roller with constant pressure.
