An ink ductor roller (02) closes one side of a reservoir trough (04) containing ink. Ink flows through a narrow gap onto the surface of the ductor roller as it rotates. A film roller (03) with a patterned surface is in contact with the ductor roller and is in contact with the color roller (07) for the printing machine (01). Grooves in the patterned surface may be 4.0 to 16.0 mm broad and 0.1 to 0.5 mm deep.
