Method of stacking books - uses accelerated and slowed rows of books and stacked rows

The stacking machine will accept books at a variable rate. The books are accelerated along the feed belt and then slowed down at the stacking table where they finally stop. On the stacking table the books are sorted into piles of predetermined quantities. An automatic counting system is incorporated. The books are supplied to the stacking machine by two feed belts and the first belt travels more slowly than the second. The books are transformed onto a further belt until the leading book is brought to rest by a stop. When the stack is complete the table raises it to the level of the discharge table.
