The material forming the table top (2) has blind holes (1a) drilled in its cut edge. Over this is placed a metal plate, having its edges flush with the table top. Holes line up with those in the table top material, the centre of the plate being removed. The edging is a plastic moulding, with a rounded profile blending in, and continuous, with the edges. The moulding has rebated edges and a number of dowel pegs (3a) on its vertical surface (3b), positioned to line up with the holes; these pegs fit into the holes in the cut edge and are secured using adhesive.
