An automatic heat storage system having at least two separate heat sources, has a first heat source (6) with pump (5) for throughput of heating medium and a heat removal system (3) with a second circulating pump (8). Part of the heat medium flow is pumped round the heat removal system (3) by pump (8), part by pump (5) through the first heat source (6). A first storage container (1) having a predetermined volume of gas above the heat medium surface has an inflow of medium from the heat source (6), an equivalent outflow through pump (5) and an upper region outlet to pump (8). A second heat storage container (2) of similar type has a second heat source (12) to control the temperature of its contents, part of which are pumped off through heat removal system (3).
