A press mould (5) of a thin resilient material, e.g. rubber, defines the side wall (7) of the press and has its ends (6) bent round the ends of the side wall (7) which is cylindrical and pressed against the base (3) of the press by a collar (8). The press chamber is closed in airtight manner by a stopper (12) which has a frusto-conical wall (13) which protrudes inside the chamber. Seals (11) are provided to hermetically seal the press mould (5), the base (3) and the stopper (12). Differential pressure is produced between the inner area of the chamber and the outer area by a suction system connected to the interior of the chamber and at least one inlet which connects the outer part of the chamber to the atmosphere. This differential pressure causes the press mould (5) to abut the workpiece (14) along its side and remaining faces.
