Oral aspirin compsns. for treating respiratory diseases - prepd. by dissolving in a nonmodifying solvent then adding to excipients

Process for preparing a prod. for internal use in treatment of diseases of the respiratory or other tracts is described. The process comprises completely dissolving aspirin (I) in a solvent which does not modify its props. The resulting homogeneous soln. is then added to excipients to give an easily absorbed prod. such as a syrup, wine, elixir or soln. Compsns. have the usual analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anti-pyretic props. of (I) without the tendency of conventional oral formulations to cause ulcers or diabetes with acidosis. Suitable solvents (for 4 g (I)) are (a) a soln. of 6.8 g Na glycerophosphate in 25 ml water or (b) soln. of 18 g Na citrate in 30 ml water, and pref. excipients include ephedrine hydrochloride, Na benzoate, codeine, etc.
