摘要
Thermal decompsn. of water, the novelty being that steam at 100-1200 degrees C is brought into contact with a subdivided mass of a metal from the platinum family; the undecomposed steam is condensed, whereas the mixt. of H2 and O2 is collected. For the prodn. of pure H2, the process can be carried out in a chamber permitting the selective diffusion of H2 at high temp. through the chamber wall, the H2 then being collected outside the chamber, possibly in a current of inert gas. The steam is pref. at 400-800 degrees C, and the subdivided metal is pref. Pd held in a Pd tube or a refractory tube with fine porosity. Direct use of heat for mfg. H2 for use as a fuel, e.g. using high temp. steam from nuclear power stations or solar energy. The decompsn. of the steam may be accelerated by laser-, ultraviolet-, X-, alpha-, beta-, gamma-rays or neutrons.
