Device for prepg. chips from a paste of dehydrated potato comprises a cylinder contg. the paste, and means for applying pressure to the paste to expel it towards a grid assembly. The latter forces the paste through a grid to form parallelepipeds of square section, and cuts them into lengths of approx. 4-6cm. The press. may be applied to the paste by a piston to which compressed air is applied by a compressor housed in the cover of the cylinder. The paste may be forced through the grid by a piston which is maintained in its lower end position by a spring, preventing entry of more paste and blocking the holes of the grid. Both the grid and its piston may be removable. The chips fall from the grid into a bath of fat for immediate cooking.
