The auxiliary power unit for an up and over garage door includes both the drive (8) and driven (10) pulley wheels, thus avoiding misalignment malfunctions. It can be used with doors of multiple tilting leaves which retract by sliding on rails, so as to augment torsion springs by rotating the shaft (4) which winds door traction cables. The unit incorporates journal bearing apertures which fit into the winding shaft (4), and chain (9) transmission is then obtained by locking the driven pulley (10) onto the winding shaft (4).
