1420584 3-Diethylamino-2,2-dimethylpropyl- 5-(substituted phenyl)-2-furoates MORTONNORWICH PRODUCTS Inc 27 June 1974 [2 Nov 1973] 28627/74 Heading C2 Novel compounds of Formula I wherein R is 4-CH 3 , 4-CF 3 , 3-CH 3 O, 4-CH 3 O, 4-Br, 4-Cl, 4-NO 2 , 4-nitro-3-methyl-, 3,4-difluoro or 2,3-dichloro and salts thereof are prepared by reaction of 3-diethylamino-2,2-dimethyl propanol with a compound of formula prepared in situ from the corresponding acid. The intermediate above acids are prepared by oxidation of the corresponding 5-(R-phenyl)- furan-2-aldehydes which are obtained by action of NaNO 2 acid, CuCl 2 and furfural on the R- phenylamine. Pharmaceutical compositions in conventional forms having antispasmodic activity comprise an above novel compound and a carrier therefor.
