1430584 Rotary positive-displacement fluid-machines THOMAS COLEMAN & SONS Ltd 25 July 1973 [27 July 1972] 35106/72 Heading F1F A unit for pumping a cold emulsion of bitumen and water, or similar emulsion, comprises a pump 4 with a single flexible-vane rotor producing a combination of centrifugal and positivedisplacement pumping effects and driven by a prime mover e.g. an I.C. engine, 3 through a clutch, which may be in the form of a V-belt or rope (not shown) tensioned by a jockey pulley connected to a hand lever 5. A filter 6 may be provided on the intake side of the pump and a hose with a spraying lance may be connected to an outlet 8 having a cock or valve 9. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the unit is mounted on a towable wheeled frame supporting a storage drum (14) for the emulsion. Alternatively the pump rotor may be coupled to the prime mover by a chain, or gearing, and a clutch of e.g. the friction or magnetic type.
