1435042 Stoppers FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 29 March 1974 [4 April 1973] 13939/74 Heading B8T [Also in Division F2] A valve or drain plug for a car radiator comprises a moulded plastics insert 16, received within an opening 13 in the wall of the radiator, and a moulded plastics plug 17 which screws into the insert to compress a rubber gasket 18 between the wall of the container and an enlarged head 32 of the plug. The shape of the hole and the shape of the insert are such that rotation of the insert is prevented. The insert is located in the hole by means of two pairs of fingers 22 and 26 having locating abutments 23, 27 respectively. The insert is sprung into place in the opening and withdrawal can be achieved by inward deflection of the fingers 22 by gripping extensions 29 thereof. Fingers 41 on the inner end of the plug prevent its accidental withdrawal but by application of sufficient force the ramp surfaces 44 enable the plug to be removed completely. The valve may be moulded as an integral whole, the two parts being joined together by connections (46), Fig. 8 (not shown) which sever as the insert is pushed into the hole in the radiator, the rubber gasket 18 having first been put in place on the stem of the plug. An enlarged part 38 of the stem prevents the accidental inward displacement of the fingers 22 when the valve is closed.
