1444850 Resilient support of skins in machines for processing skins LUIGI RIZZI & C SpA 12 July 1974 [8 Aug 1973 18 June 1974] 30893/74 Heading C6C A device in a skin treating machine for the resilient support of a skin having variations in thickness comprises a beam 19 displaceable relatively to an operating cylinder 5, on which beam there is mounted on plane guides 27 a resilient bearing 28 being transversely adjusted by adjusting units 24, 25 located at regular spaced intervals over the entire length of the bearing so as to cause the bearing to assume a transverse line best adapted to the thickness of the skin being processed, and hydraulic means 22a-23b for setting the basic treatment thickness and for increasing this thickness in accordance with the dimensions of the skin. The resilient bearing may be of parallelopiped form and of constant cross-section over the entire length of the operating tool, the bearing being displaceable within the guides of the displaceable beam so as to assume various positions according to the average transverse thickness of the skin. Preferably the resilient bearing has a parallelopiped shape, with grooves or reduced portions in the rear part thereof to form a zone of greater elasticity able to absorb the deformations due to the variations in thickness of the skin being processed. The resilient bearing may be formed from materials of varying elasticity firmly connected together so as to be able to absorb local or general deformations of the skin being processed. Alternatively the resilient bearing, as well as having a parallelopiped shape with longitudinal grooves, or made of material of different elasticity, is provided with a plurality of vertical transverse holes near the rear end of the bearing, distributed along the bearing. The distribution of the holes in the longitudinal direction is either uniform or varied at various intervals or in different positions, the holes also having different diameters and shapes. The transverse holes may be grouped to correspond with, and located adjacent, units adjusting the position of the bearing. Plugs may be introduced into some or all of the holes, the plugs being of an elastic or rigid material, for varying the elasticity of the bearing in the transverse direction.
