An exhalation tidal volume and minute ventilation data acquisition method for application to and use with a pressure breathing inhalation therapy ventilator for use by humans. The device for practicing the method comprises a substantially inelastic flexible collapsible vessel of known volume for attachment to the exhaust valve of the pressure breathing assistor in inhalation therapy, the vessel filling with exhaled air so that, when the number of breaths and time for vessel filling are determined, the tidal volume and minute ventilation are established.
