1530874 Web transfer in paper-making machines VALMET OY 23 March 1977 [31 March 1976] 12169/77 Heading D2A In a paper-making machine a pull-in strip of a paper web is guided to follow a predetermined path at a transfer region between sections of the machine, the pull-in strip in turn drawing the full-width web to follow the required path. To ensure that the pull-in strip is no longer than necessary a chopping means is used to remove the excess. In the embodiment shown the transfer of the web from a dryer section to a calender section 30 is aided by compressed-air jets 23, baffles 15, 16 and a guiding member 19 pivotable about a horizontal axis and incorporating rotary cutter blades 27 driven by electric, pneumatic or hydraulic motors 26. Alternatively the chopping means may comprise high-pressure fluid jets.
