1400643 Topical compositions PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 4 April 1973 [5 April 1972] 16080/73 Heading A5B A composition suitable for topical application to animal tissue comprises (1) at least 0.1% by weight of a sugar ester; and (2) at least 0.1% by weight of a sulphoxide of formula RSP1/SPS(O)RSP2/SP wherein RSP1/SP is a straight or branched chain alkyl or hydroxy-substituted alkyl group having from 1 to 12 carbont atoms, and RSP2/SP is an alkyl or hydroxy-substituted alkyl group having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms; or a phosphine oxide of formula RSP3/SPRSP4/SPRSP5/SPP(O) wherein RSP3/SP is an alkyl or hydroxy-substituted alkyl grup having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, and RSP4/SP and RSP5/SP, which may be alike or different, are each an alkyl or hydroxy-substituted alkyl group having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms. The compositions may also contain one or more pharmacologically active compounds selected from antimicrobial and antifungal agents, antibiotics, steroids, astringent metal salts, antimetabolites, vitamin A, sunscreering agents, local anaesthetics and rubifacient oils.
