1447705 Removing NH 3 , H 2 S and HCN from gas streams SIMON-CARVES Ltd 11 Jan 1974 [7 Feb 1973] 01495/74 Heading C1A [Also in Division C5] NH 3 , H 2 S and HCN are removed from gas streams by scrubbing with aqueous iron sulphate or sulphite, circulating the resulting suspension through an oxidizer, withdrawing part of the stream leaving the oxidizer, separating the solids from it, discharging clear (NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 solution and subjecting it to combustion, cooling the combustion products containing N 2 , steam and sulphur oxides and introducing these products into a condensation tower; the separated solids containing cyanogen compounds being slurried with water and treated at increased temperature and pressure to hydrolyse the cyanogen compounds to form free ammonia, iron hydroxides and formic acid salts, the hydrolysis reaction products being contacted with the products of combustion in the condensation tower to form iron sulphate or sulphite which is recycled to the scrubber unit.
