Method comprises first contacting an aq. suspension of ash-contg coal particles with a hydrocarbon-based binder under turbulent conditions in an agglomerating appts. The resulting agglomerates are sepd. from the ash-contg. aq. phase and taken up in a hydrocarbon fuel, in which they are disintegrated to form a suspension of coal particles. The process simultaneously removes ash from the coal and puts it in a readily suspendable form. The resulting suspensions are stable enough to be injected into burners as liq. fuel.
