The receptacle (2) for receiving plants is composed of two side walls (9), of two end walls (10) and of a base part (11) connected thereto, a plant trough (14) being provided along at least one side wall (9). The receptacle (2) is designed in the form of a structural element and, by stacking a number of the latter one on top of the other, is suitable for erecting a masonry wall. Passage-openings (19; 15) in the side walls (9) and in the base (11) of the plant trough (14) permit uniform watering of the plant troughs (14) of a plurality of receptacles (2) stacked one on top of the other. Excess water is channelled away through other openings (17) in the base of the receptacles (2). A masonry wall erected using such receptacles (2) and with lower parts (1) and upper parts (3) is particularly suitable for use as a sound-insulating masonry wall. IMAGE
