Controlled recirculation of one of the phases in a liquid extractor is effected by sepg. off the fraction of the phase to be recycled using an adjustable weir. The weir height is kept the same for both fractions so as not to interfere with the separator, only the proportion being altered by movement of a baffle. The overflow weir can be mounted inside or outside the separator. This divides the recycled phase in proportion to the throughput of the other phase, maintaining the liquid head the same on both sides. The weir height can be adjusted. It can be either round or rectangular. Used with liq. extraction systems using the mixer-separator principle.
