A bag is the shape of a rectangular block, esp. a schoolbag, with back straps and/or a shoulder strap, is made from a thin flexible outercovering material, with a stiffening insert. The flexible material is pref. a woven fabric of synthetic fibres, impregnated to make it waterproof. The inserts consists of a frame formed by one or more pieces secured to the fabric by rivets or staples. One or more dividing walls parallel to the back of the bag may be provided, each having a stiffener. The stiffener for the space next to the back of the bag is open forwards and upwards, whilst those for the other compartments have the form of a 'U' opening upwards. At least one stiffener consists of a centre piece and two side pieces which can be inserted into the space and fastened to bottom, back and side faces. The bag is light in weight but stands up to rough treatment. It is suitable for mass prodn. It prevents the formation of sweat even when carried on the back for a long period. It can also be carried on the shoulder or by hand.
