Racemates and optically active isomers of a compound selected from the group consisting of a compound of the formula WHEREIN R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, lower alkyl optionally substituted with a member of the group consisting of hydroxy and halogen, lower alkenyl, lower alkynyl, -(CH2)n - COCH3 where n is 0 or 1, O PARALLEL -C-OX wherein X is selected from the group consisting of lower alkyl and optionally substituted phenyl, aralkyl of seven to eight carbon atoms, acyl of an organic carboxylic acid of one to six carbon atoms optionally substituted with X1 -(CH2)m-N ANGLE X1 where m is an integer from 0 to 6 and X1 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and lower alkyl, X1 -(CH2)p-N ANGLE X1 where p is an integer from 1 to 6 and X1 is as before and O &uarr& X2 -CH2-P ANGLE X2 wherein X2 is lower alkyl and R1 and R2 are individually selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, trifluoromethyl and dilower alkylamino and the non-toxic, pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition and quaternary ammonium salts thereof which have a stimulating effect on the central nervous system while possessing at the same time anticonvulsant activity and their preparation.
