Composite fabric - includes mixture of waste leather fibres and textile fibres impregnated with resin

A mixt. of waste leather fibres (1-33 mm long) and textile fibres (e.g. natural or synthetic, polyester, polypropylene, polyacrylonitrile) in the ratio 10:90% - 90:10% in mixed e.g. by air jets and formed into aq. suspension having a density of 0.1-0.5 gm/litre. The suspension is filtered to produce a non-woven web which is dried by hot gas at 100 degrees C and then impregnated with an elastomeric material (e.g. water-resistant polyacrylate). A thickening agent (e.g. methylcellulose) together with polysaccharides may be added to the dispersion and the pH may be controlled to be 4-7 by Al2(SO4)3. The fabric is water-proof, cheap to produce and has a high elasticity and extensibility.
